Reinvent Your Space - Room Redesign

You don’t need to hire expensive interior decorators to reinvent your flat or house. Number 1 rule of thumb is to Personalize.

Make your space your own, no amount of trendy styles can replace your own. If you have a collection of vases or picture frames, arrange them in an odd number. It adds continuity without the predictability.

Inject Character . “Modern apartments are beautiful but they lack charm”, so says Venus Williams in one Cosmopolitan magazine interview. If you look at your apartment or house and thinks that it’s lacking something, instantly inject character to your space by reinventing the look of certain furniture pieces. Stain your floors with a darker shade for a cozy feel, distress room or cabinet doors to make them look older or add crown moldings and replace your drawer pulls. Style is all in the details you include in a room.

Pick a focal point. Elegance doesn’t equal ornate or fussy things in your room. It’s just the opposite really. Pick one thing in your room to accent and highlight, a tall vase, a picture wall, a table or even an armoir and arrange your furniture to face it. Avoid too much noise, i.e., too many distracting things in your room, keep it sophisticated and clean with the one highlighted area bringing a graceful balance to your space.

Flank the floors. Since the right rug can make or break your project, you should use your rug to set the tone of the room. After you picked a rug you absolutely adore, think why you adore it, and proceed to arrange your space around a particular shade you loved or if it’s a pattern, accentuate it by connecting subtle elements elsewhere to add a finished and rich look to your room.

Play with texture. to prevent your space from appearing flat and monotonous, mix and match different materials togeths. You can achieve a striking effect by combining a shaggy rug with a cool metal table or draping a plush throw across a leather sofa.

Choose totally-you hues. A splash of paint can give a room a totally new look, revitalize an otherwise drab surrounding or give character to a characterless space. But when trying to select the right shade of color, try not to be too trendy. Choosing colors just because they’re currently “hot”, chances are, you’ll get tired of it soon after. Rather than picking an “in” hue, try one that makes you feel good. Don’t know what it is? Ask yourself, which piece of clothing you have in the closet that you least think you’d get tired of and think of that shade.

Soften the lighting. Light that comes from the ceiling can feel sterile on its own. Install a dimmer switch for your overhead light, supplementing it with brightness from other sources like direct lighting for reading by your favorite couch or recliner. Use indirect lights, like softly lighted lamps that lends a certain softness to your room.

Maximize your space. The simplest way to do this is to pull your funiture away from the wall rather than pinning it up against it. this will make your room instantly appear bigger and spacious.

And don’t forget to strut your pinoy style by incorporating details like sinamay or capiz shells in your space planning. It does not take a professional to redesign and reinvent your space, this do it yourself project can be a fun and stress-relieving exercise that you can do on your own or with friends and family.
