Thirteen Things You Should KNow About Provincetown, MA
1. This is the site of the Pilgrim’s first landing in Nov. 11, 1620 - the reason for the US Thanksgiving celebration

2. At the very tip of Cape Cod, used to be heavily forested but the trees were cut down for firewood and now Provincetown is mainly dunes and beaches

3. An art colony, dating back to the 1800’s

4. Gay mecca of the US

5. Site of America’s first night club, the Atlantic House or simply A-House

6. One of the best whale watching sites (according to the WWF), Stellwagen Bank providing great feeding ground to whales and other sea creatures. On a very lucky day you can even see whales 100 feet from shore!

7. A summer town, Provincetown’s population shrinks from some 50,000 in the summer to less than 5,000 in the “off-season”

8. Most businesses are open only in the summer which makes for one very quiet place in the winter

9. The Pilgrim monument is the tallest all-granite structure in the US

10. Marc Jacobs, first mass-merchandise retailer to ever set shop on Commercial St.

11. Provincetown Carnival is a much anticipated event with floats and great fun!

12. Great beaches with the National Seashore providing some of the most pristine beach environment

13. Best French Fries I’ve tasted at the Townsend Lobster Restaurant up Fisherman’s Wharf.

If you don’t know where to go, hop on a ferry from Boston and head out to Provincetown for the day or two =)
