Barangay Pinoy

Kahit saan, kahit kailan, basta may Pinoy may barangay [Anytime, anywhere, whenever there are Filipinos around, a closeknit village will emerge].

In cities across the US, “barangays” or psuedo villages of loosely affiliated Filpinos coming from the same city or town back in the Philippines come together for certain occasions. They have fiestas and gatherings mainly around food. The comfort of the dinner table is acknowledged as the great connector among Filipinos. It is at dinner table [whether at home or anywhere else] that people catch up with each other’s stories and plans for the future.

In tiny New England [Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire], a barangay is born, but this time, online, Barangay Filipino In New England. It’s focused on catering to the needs of Filipinos in New England, bringing them together through an online community and hopefully prop up Filipino businesses i nthe region.
