Them Rice Pickers
A lot of people think that the US is the land of milk and honey .. and it may well be for a lot of people. Hey, over here it’s easier to get approved for a credit card — low credit rating? No problem, you can still buy on credit, you just have to pay double … maxed out the other one? Easy, apply for more plastic!
But there is another side to the milk and honey … it’s the dirt and grime of living and working here. And if you’re one of the “unlucky” ones, you get face to face with the ugly side of reality - racism and prejudice. After the huge drama over the failed immigration reform, the US has never been more divided and aware of differences.
Unless of course you just watch TFC the whole day and stay within the Filipino community, “lucky” you, you never had to deal with the rest of the world =)
Yes, I’ve been called “Them rice pickers” … by a loser white trash no less. Oooops, perhaps that’s why the stupid remark passed through his mouth? He thought it was funny too. The kind of person who watches those cops shows and think that all other countries are like the ones depicted in those infomercials asking for money to feed children living next to the railways.
You get so riled the first time and would probably hurl a nasty retort … but when you face prejudice and racism for the nth time, you either get tired of it or you do something - like blog about it. Bleh.
No wonder Barack Obama is getting so much attention.

Ohh I had my share of racism, prejudice and stereotyping - I am just tired of it.
